Yesterday, when I was in line for the Terry Moore signing here in Dallas (thanks Terry! Christie loved her sketch!), I overheard a conversation in line.
(Ok, I admit it! I have a bad habit of eavesdropping. I do it everywhere I go.)
This person was talking at length about the movie 'Dungeons & Dragons'. She hated it. She thought it was worthless. She went on and on about how completely bad it was.
Then I heard her say that she has seen it twice and even owns the DVD.
Ok, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and tastes, but... if you don't like the movie, why did you buy it?
But then, before I could enter in the conversation uninvited to ask her about this, the woman then went on to say, "Hey, at least they got the movie made. Who cares if it was horrible, at least they got the movie made..."
So, that is my question to the group.
I know we have fun casting the comic, but if push came to shove, would you prefer no movie or a bad movie?
Waiting with baited breath.

I'd rather see no movie than a bad one. The only way hating a movie but owning and watching it, to me, would be if that person were a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan, and owned it so it could be mocked.

Actually, the only reason you buy something like that and see it twice in the theatre is because for some reason you like it. The only reason to talk trash about it is because you are embarrased about having liked it...
Really, more and more I think SiP would be an awful movie. It just wouldn't work out the way Terry want's it, good luck him getting total control(never happen...), and in order to sum the story up in 1:30-:45, it'd come of as a bad rip off of Bound...
of course you could drop the 'dark past' and 'crazy mob woman' bits, then it's a lifetime movie of the week.
This story just wouldn't work as a movie. A series, maybe, look at stuff like the Sopranos...problem with that is whoever bought it would want to make it 'sexier' to broaden it's appeal, and I doubt Terry would stand for that...of course the worse thing that could happen would be TNT getting their hooks into it...(#shudder#>
Terry, if you are reading this, if TNT ever sends somebody to talk to you, let the dogs on him, and give him a blast from a shotgun filled with rock salt.....it's the only hope you've got!
Still bitter about the whole 'Crusade' thing,
Darth

S.I.P. fans might like "Ghost World", a TPB by Clowes. It's a two-color comic about the friendship between two young women and a very moral, sensitive young man. It has been made into a movie that is supposed to be released this summer. I hope the movie will be tolerable; if so, there's hope for a decent S.I.P. movie. The odds in Hollywood are so bad that almost by definition a movie made from a comic book will be a stinker.

I would preferr NO movie to a bad one. The trouble is... What works in a comic dosen't allways work in film or video. Comics are almost like Story Boarding a film. Showing a lot in a short time. The reader is meant to "read between the lines" fill in with their imagination. When you "spell it all out" for them in film it never compares to what you have in your head. Same goes with novels vs. film. SiP works sooo well for so many different kinds of folks cause it means a little something different to everyone who reads it. One can fill in the blanks so to speak and that makes it personal. A film is subject to the interpretation of the director, the actors, the producers...ect.

Ghost World opened today in several big cities not near me. The featured review in USA Today is ecstatic. Looks like good stuff. How hard can it be to do it right, especially if the creator does the script and at least 75% of it survives the process?

Deja what?
A while back, we had one or two threads devoted to a fan who made a black & white SIP movie based on the first TPB. Anyone remember his UserName or his site? I had his site bookmarked but I lost it some time ago.

I think that Terry Moore's SIP would make an excellent movie.
It's got entertainment and a heck of a lot of emotional drama.
If it was made into a movie, the perfect choices for teenaged-young adult Francine and Katchoo would be:
Tara Reid "American Pie 2" (Katchoo)
Sara Rue, from "Popular" and "Pearl Harbor" as Francine.

I would be furious if some one screwed up a SIP movie. Maybe dangerous to attempt. I'm already tense waiting for Liv Tyler to screw op the Fellowship. My life is stressful enough!
